Festival of the Hunter - Rules

The rules for the competition are available from the BRC website and also if you click the Rules link beside our entry forms but basically here they are in a nut shell.

The basis of this competition is now a two phase competition, whereby a round of show jumps, which will consist of 7 - 10 show jumps, including at least one double, and includes a proportion with fillers (brushes, walls etc). Thereafter the rider will go through the finish of the Showjumping and straight onto the cross country course which should consist of 8 – 15 cross-country jumping efforts. The scoring works similar to that of any Showjumping or Cross country competition. There is no time for tack change you must be dressed for the cross country element even when Showjumping.

Pairs
The show jumping phase will be run as a pair’s relay, the second rider to wait in a
designated area whilst the first rider competes and until the first rider has passed a
whip to them to commence their round. When the second rider has completed their
show jumping round the pair will go directly onto the cross country course. (If the first
rider requires a whip for the cross country phase this may be held for them by the
change-over steward and handed to them prior to leaving the box). If a rider leaves
the box prior to hand over the whip they must return to exchange correctly.
The second rider will go directly from show jumping onto the cross country phase, the
first rider may leave the box when the second rider has jumped their last show jump.

Pairs scoring:-
Dressing Fence Penalties
Horses jump side-by-side no penalties
Horses separated by up to ½ length 05 penalties
Horses separated by between ½ and 1 length 10 penalties
Horses separated by between 1 and 2 lengths 20 penalties
Horses separated by more than 2 lengths 40 penalties

To give you an idea of what the Ayr Riding Club qualifier course will consist of , we hope to have 8 show jumps (one of which is a double) and 15 cross country efforts. These are just estimates at present and we also hope to have 1 dressing fence for the pairs.
When we run on the day the Open teams and individuals will start followed by the Novice team and individuals and then the pairs. After which a non qualifier cross country competition will be run with Novice and Open individuals and also Pairs. We may be able to accept entries on the day but pre-entry is advised to avoid disappointment.

We are really determined to run this competition having had to cancel on the previous two occasions. The main stumbling block for us is the parking of all the vehicles and to combat that we are trying very hard to put measures in place to hopefully help. May we politely ask that where possible people share transport as well as they can to cut down on the number of vehicles we will be required to park on the day.

We look forward to seeing you all on the day and remember your clubs preliminary entries must be with BRC no later than 21st August 2009.
